Working on new designs

I've been busy with commissions, card orders, and sketch challenges on Instagram. I love participating in a # challenge so I can see what other people are also working on and it keeps me busy making new things. Follow my Instagram @monkeymadness to see what else I'm working on!

I started working on a 30 day sketch challenge and it's helping me get out of my usual subject matter.

Tiny Paintings

Getting ready for craft fairs yet again!  These tiny paintings are super fun to make and I'm excited to which ones people like best.

No animal is left un-doodled...

Each 2"x2" canvas is watercolored and doodled (usually while watching an 80's movie).

Holiday Craft Fairs

Oh man!  It's that time of the season... the Craft Fair season... Where days are spent at my full time job, nights are spent doodling & painting, and weekends are spent setting up booths, meeting people, and selling stuff!  (Somewhere in there my kids are getting fed and bathed- thanks to my husband and my mom!)

My first Craft Fair of the season was at Helmi's Garden Center in Columbia, Mo. It's an amazing greenhouse / gift shop with beautiful light and a giantly fat cat named Lynx who roams around looking for scratches and food. (He may have hung out in my lap for a bit...)

Lynx...

Lynx...

I've been shopping at Helmi's for over a year now and I love it so I was very excited to be apart of their first craft fair. I was able to make more paintings when it was slow and got to chat up customers as well as some of my maker friends who were also there. One little girl took home a unicorn painting and exclaimed to her parents: this is my best day ever!  (Clearly, it's because unicorns are so magical!)

The light at Helmi's is so beautiful and makes me want to return with my sketchbook to do some drawings.

Earth Day wrap up!

Columbia is a little pocket of awesome right in the middle of Missouri.  Our Earth Day is sponsored completely by local people & businesses brings a ton of different people together.

The first Earth Day date was postponed due to Missouri spring time conditions last week (meaning, potential tornadoes)... and rescheduled for May 4th.  It was a beautiful day (warm but not too hot) and tons of people came out to support local artisans & activists.

Earth Day - CoMo

I've been making tons of little paintings to sell at the Columbia, Mo Earth Day festival.  And with the help of my friend Aron Fischer, I've also been making greeting cards… he's screen printing my designs and then I'm water coloring bits of the image.  I'm exhausted but I love the feeling of seeing my paintings get better the more I make them… I'd rather be exhausted from MAKING than exhausted from, like, doing my taxes or whatever.  Happy exhaustion… maybe I should doodle that...
